Sheetrock? What's sheetrock?

Okay so this truck showed up today

filled with sheetrock

at our building! No Way!

So Sam and Rob and Nathanael started installing it immediately and

got all of the kitchen walls knocked out
we've got walls on the second floor!

Blessings from Saint Anthony

OSBG passed the plumbing inspection today! We will be sheetrocking this weekend!

We are so blessed by our plumber Anthony "Tony the Plumber" Monet! His spirit is so positive! His mentorship and leadership with our young women and men has been so on point!

Tony is posted up in front of our backflow preventer valve on the back of the building with some monster okras and a pumpkin.

If you need a good plumber call someone else. If you need a GREAT plumber call Tony at (504) 915 4004.

Thank you Saint Anthony!

It's Like Whoa!

Okay so we did a little bit of composting today. In addition to the ten yards of compostables we picked up from the usual suspects we had a windfall.  someone delivered us 9 palettes (twenty yards) of green waste in a semi out at what we call Far Farm.

and then guess who just joined us at our home base in the L9W?

he's the cutest little guy. he's a baby goat maybe a few months old. what should we name him?

Great Shout Out from our friends at Growing Cities on Grist

Q. You visited with 80 urban farmers; who stood out and why?

A. Something incredible is happening down in the Lower Ninth Ward in New Orleans with Our School at Blair Grocery, a food justice academy. Nat Turner and company are working to empower youth by engaging them deeply with their food system, including planting, harvesting, and selling food to local restaurants. Those kids have stories of struggle — guns, gangs, violence — and every day they work on the farm is a new day for them, in a safe place where something positive happens with their hands. It doesn’t get much better than that.

a week in the life

this week has been a lot of fun. here are some pics.

darnisha, the horse whisperer, fell in love with the horses (and the horses loved her) at the stable where we pick up manure for our compost operation.

brian's grandfather's garden. he is growing our starts in our soil and compost.

the after school kids in their garden. its a profit sharing garden: they share the profits of everything they sell.

the kids are painting the middle room where we keep the worms. eric came by to paint today. he is the uncle of one of our after school kids.

we found a wild swarm of bees
and convinced them to jump in our hive
